The WAPT was founded in 2004 on the principles that poker for amateurs should be held in a legal, safe and fair environment. To that end, the WAPT has created a comprehensive program of amateur poker play which include world, national, continental, regional and local championships, the International Amateur Poker League ™ (IAPL ™) and the annual World Amateur Poker Championship. All WAPT activities are held at legal, licensed brick and mortar Casino cardrooms and explicitly exclude professional poker players along with professional tournament buyins ensuring a legal, safe, fair and fun experience for all its members. In addition, the WAPT maintains World Amateur Player Ranking and Amateur Player of the Year stats for its members.
